The Role
In a Nutshell

The Retreat Host is responsible for delivering a seamless guest experience by hosting guests throughout their fitness retreat and teaching Workout Away Signature Concept classes. This role is approximately 70% hosting and 30% teaching, ensuring guests feel supported, motivated, and exceptionally taken care of at all times. As a Retreat Host you’ll work as part of a collaborative team to maintain the five-star status of the Workout Away brand.​

While working overseas may sound fun, it’s important to understand that this is a demanding role. The days can be long, and while there’s excitement in being part of a retreat in beautiful locations, free time is limited. The job often requires more energy than a regular role, so be prepared for the challenging but very rewarding nature of this role.

Deliver Workout Away Signature Concepts in line with the concept manuals.

Provide an exceptional guest experience, acting as the main point of contact for guest needs and ensuring their satisfaction throughout the retreat.

About You
Criteria

Minimum Level 2 fitness qualification.

Experience in teaching strength, cardio, core, and stretching classes.

High-end customer service experience, preferably from boutique gyms, hotels, airlines, cruise ships, or premium brands.

Ability to demonstrate athleticism and be an inspirational role model for guests, demonstrating a high level of physical fitness.

Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively receive feedback from Retreat Managers and Master Trainers.

Must be available for two days of initial training.

Have a UK or EU passport, or the rights to work in the UK.

Have the legal right to work in the UK or within the EU.

The Joining Process
The application process is formed of three steps:
​
1. Candidates must submit their CV, which outlines details of their fitness experience to date and any other relevant work.
​
2. Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit one short two-minute video of them instructing a class that is similar to one of the Workout Away signature programmes.
3. Successful candidates will be invited to our Live Audition day in central London.

You must be able to attend our Live Audition on Sunday 5th January, 2025 in Central London.
FAQs
How long will I be away?
Our shortest trip would require a minimum of two nights away from home, with our longest trip being ten nights away.
Are flights provided?
Yes, you will be provided with return flights from a London airport (LHR, LGW, LTN, STN, LCY), and all work related transport expenses will be paid for in-resort. If the retreat is based in the UK, travel is also provided.
What about meals?
Just like our guests, you will receive breakfast and dinner. Where breakfast and dinner are not provided, a meal allowance will be paid.
Is there any training required?
You will need to complete Retreat Host Initial Training to deliver our signature programmes Workout Away Revive, Rivals & HIIT. You will complete two full days of training in London where we'll also teach you about our business and your responsibilities in-resort.
How many classes will I teach?
You'll teach between one and three sessions per day.
Will I have free time to myself?
Your working day will begin early, sometimes before sunrise. Workouts and activities will run throughout the day leading up to dinner, where you will dine with the group. You will get gaps throughout the day where you can relax, but your working days will be busy.
What does the administration part of the role include?
Most administration is carried out in the UK. When you are away, you must keep track of expenses, handle restaurant reservations, and book transport from our partner providers.
If anything goes wrong, will I have support 24/7?
Yes. you will be working in-resort alongside one of our experienced Retreat Managers. We also have an On-Call Manager available 24/7. Minor customer experience issues that can be handled locally should be solved by yourself to make things better for our guests; this is why a solution-focused approach to work is essential.
Will I work alone or as part of a team?
You'll work as part of a team of two or three. All retreats are led by one of our Retreat Managers who you will support as a Retreat Host.
Can I socialise with the guests?
Of course, we want our guests to have a great time, and we want the same for you. Considering that our holidays are centred around fitness and well-being, alcohol can be consumed, but only in moderation, and conduct should always represent our brand in the best possible way.
What will my accommodation be like?
Accommodation varies depending on the retreat location. You may be required to share your room with another staff member; otherwise, you will have your own room. You may not necessarily be accommodated at the same venue, but you will be very close by. You will receive a good level of accommodation furnished to a high standard. You are not required to share rooms with guests.
Can I take a friend or family member away with me?
Concessional benefits are available, and details will be given during training.
Do I have to commit to the whole trip?
Yes, you are required to remain in-resort for the duration of the trip.
How long in advance do I need to commit to a retreat?
We need total commitment eight months in advance.
Can I commit to a retreat and then change my mind later?
No, you cannot change your mind later after committing to a retreat.
How many retreats am I expected to lead per year?
We require all of our trainer team members to lead a minimum of three retreats per year.
This is a self-employed freelance position; therefore, all income is subject to tax and NI contributions as enforced by HMRC.
You will be required to produce your UTR and NI number. All payments will be paid in GBP into a UK bank account.
